Nursing Spotlight: Jenny, LVN, Skilled Nursing Unit (5 Main)

Jenny grew up in the Philippines with two brothers and parents that always supported her inquisitive mind. From an early age, Jenny loved the ocean. She enjoyed learning about the ocean’s inhabitants and loved being in the water. This interest fueled her desire to study marine biology in college. After graduating, Jenny worked as a marine biologist and spent a great deal of time exploring the ocean and SCUBA diving.

At the age of 26, Jenny’s family came to the United States. Here, she discovered that jobs as a marine biologist were hard to come by and decided to pursue a different career path.  Still unsure of what that career path was, Jenny decided to help a friend who was a nurse take care of an in-home patient. Through the enjoyment and fulfillment she gained from that experience, Jenny decided she would also become a nurse.

Jenny’s family lives in Stockton, Calif., but her parents encouraged her to move to Los Angeles. With a good network of family friends in L.A. and more opportunities in the job market, Jenny agreed. After settling in Los Angeles, she began working on her CNA at Allied Health Services in Glendale. And then went on to LVN training at Marion College in Los Angeles. She will also continue with her education by starting her RN training in the spring at Los Angeles City College.

Even though her original job plans didn’t include nursing, Jenny has found it to be a very fulfilling career and enjoys helping all of her patients. She has many friends who are also nurses and enjoys the sense of community she gets from spending time with those who share the same career as her. Outside of work, Jenny enjoys swimming and participates in an indoor women’s soccer league in Monrovia.

Jenny has worked on the Skilled Nursing Unit as both a CNA and as a LVN.  Patients and coworkers alike appreciate her quality of care delivery and her cheerful demeanor.  She is truly an asset to the White Memorial Family.
