In Support of White Memorial

A Letter from Oscar De La Hoya

January 2007

Dear Friends:

White Memorial Medical Center has been a gift to my family, and a gift to the community I grew up in. I am honored to have my name affiliated with a hospital that has been a trusted neighbor in our community for nearly 100 years. My support for the hospital is stronger than ever.

I applaud the hospital administrators and staff at White Memorial for the way they responsibly handled the recent situation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). They identified the problem, brought in Los Angeles County health officials and other experts, took swift action, and quickly resolved the situation.

And although this was an isolated situation, hospital administrators chose to speak openly and honestly rather than hide what happened. Throughout this situation, White Memorial has demonstrated high ethical standards, integrity of character and a passion to serve.

A Level III NICU, like the one at WMMC, provides care to some of the most critically-ill infants in Los Angeles. In fact, the NICU at White Memorial has been recognized for having one of the highest survival rates in the state.

I visited White Memorial last week and was proud to see the wonderful work the hospital does to serve our community. In my multiple visits, I have personally seen premature infants in the NICU that weigh only one pound. The doctors and staff work miracles daily to save these precious lives. Please be assured that the hospital, including the NICU, is open and safe.

I am proud to say this is my hospital, and I will continue to support it. Thank you, White Memorial, for being a trusted neighbor in our community.

Sincerely,

Oscar De La Hoya
