WMMC Reaches $30 Million Fundraising Goal

$30 Million Check

White Memorial Medical Center reached its $30 million capital campaign goal a year ahead of schedule. This was the hospital's first capital campaign in its 94 year history. The funds and pledges committed are helping to pay for the New White Memorial construction project, scheduled for completion in early 2009.

“We appreciate the leadership and commitment of our volunteer campaign cabinet not only for their time and financial gifts, but also for their gifts of trust and confidence,” said Mary Anne Chern, president of the WMMC Charitable Foundation. “Together we’re laying the groundwork to a healthier future for the families and children of our community.”

Campaign Cabinet members, which include 15 influential business and community leaders, raised generous gifts from hospital friends and supporters such as Campaign Chair David Lizarraga, president and CEO of TELACU, Senior Vice Chair George Ramirez, marketing president of Union Bank of California, boxing champion and entrepreneur Oscar De La Hoya, Consul General Ruben Beltran, and other contributors for a total of 3,036 donations.

“White Memorial is an institution that has maintained a commitment to providing community service in historic proportions,” said Lizarraga. “Beginning with a missionary zeal to serve East Los Angeles, White Memorial has dedicated nearly one hundred years to outstanding service and support to this community.”

In early April, both the Los Angeles Business Journal and Eastern Group Publications featured WMMC fundraising achievement. Although the stories do not mention this, employee and physician contributions made this notable achievement possible as well. About 35 percent of the donations came from hospital employees and physicians.
