The Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center Receives $100,000 Donation
The Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya
Cancer Center at White Memorial Medical Center
(WMMC)
received a $100,000 donation on Sept. 20 from the Breast Cancer Prevention
Fund (BCPF), which is a non-profit organization based out of Everett, Washington.
The partnership with the BCPF will enable the Cancer Center to provide free mammograms to women who might be unable to pay for these types of life saving services and treatments. The Cancer Center at WMMC was founded in 2000, and is named in memory of Oscar De La Hoya's mother, Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya.
"Together the BCPF and WMMC are making great strides in fighting the battle of breast cancer and serving a community that is in need of cancer education and awareness. WMMC would like to thank the BCPF for partnering with us. Without their generous support we couldn't touch as many lives," said Helen Mosely, Director of Cancer Services.
The BCPF is a non- profit organization that raises money to help fight the battle against breast cancer. Their target population is the West Coast. Their mission is to save lives by providing funds to pay for mammograms for uninsured women. One of their goals is to ensure all women over 40 received a baseline mammogram and that a lack of ability to pay does not prevent any women from receiving the medical treatment she needs.
White Memorial Medical Center is a full-service 350-bed acute care teaching facility located just east of downtown Los Angeles. With a full range of services that include advanced open-heart surgery, orthopedic surgery, cancer services and neonatal intensive care. WMMC is well-recognized for medical excellence and its mission of compassionate care. WMMC has won three Eureka Awards for Performance Excellence from the California Council on Excellence.
