Dr. Stoll Celebrates 40 Years of Service
Lloyd Stoll, DDS, likes to share that his patients range in age from 4 to 104. What he might not tell you is that he’s been treating one patient since she was 4 years old – and is now also treating that patient’s children, and grandchildren.
Dr. Stoll joined the medical staff of White Memorial as a dentist in 1968, when there were very few dentists serving this area. This year, he celebrates his 40th year of serving this community, our hospital, and many others.
“I love what I do. I feel I’m in a mission field,” says Dr. Stoll, whose office is located in the 1828 bungalows. “This hospital holds a very important position in this community. It has a different approach to medicine, even as the age of medicine is changing.”
Dr. Stoll grew up in South America and the Caribbean, and saw firsthand the difficulties faced by people suffering from economic disadvantages. It is part of what’s kept him practicing at White Memorial for so long.
“I see a lot of children,” Dr. Stoll said. “I didn’t want to leave them without any one to go to for dental care.” Dr. Stoll does all types of general dentistry.
Dr. Stoll’s wife, Pat, has also given back to the community by volunteering more than 25,000 hours at the hospital, beginning in 1973. Over the years she has assisted in the Flower Shop, the Recovery Room, Employee Health, the Gift Shop, the Skilled Nursing Unit, and the Patient Transportation Department. “It’s been quite exciting to see all the changes over the years,” she said.
One thing that hasn’t changed is Dr. Stoll’s dedication to others. In addition to his dental practice, he serves as vice president of Guyana Medical Relief, a local non-profit that raises funds to send medicine, supplies and equipment to Guyana, the small agricultural country in South America where Dr. Stoll was born. He serves as treasurer of the local alumni chapter of the University of the Southern Caribbean in Trinidad, which provides donations, scholarships and supports building programs at the university.
He is also an elder of the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in Los Angeles, where he leads a Bible study for senior members. And he volunteers as a dental consultant for the Foundation for Early Childhood Education, which is part of the L.A. Head Start program. A volunteer for the last two years, he previously served as the program’s chief consultant for dentistry for all of Los Angeles County. Today he works with program directors, ensures that proper clinical protocols are followed, and shares ideas on the availability of dental services.
But White Memorial has always been nearest and dearest to his heart. “You can’t measure success only in monetary awards,” he said. “I’ve met many friends at White Memorial, and I’m glad I’ve had this opportunity to be part of this hospital’s approach to the healing arts.”
