White Memorial Medical Center announced today that Roland Fargo has been appointed the hospital’s new vice president of business development. Fargo succeeds Mark Newmyer who has accepted the position of senior vice president of strategic operations at Simi Valley Hospital in Simi Valley, Calif.

“We’re proud to welcome Roland onto our executive team. He is a talented healthcare leader with strong clinical experience and business expertise,” said Beth Zachary, president and CEO of WMMC. “We’re also proud to see Mark grow and take on new challenges at a sister hospital, and we thank him for his contributions to our hospital’s success.”

Newmyer’s career at WMMC spans nearly 20 years. During his 12-year tenure as vice president, he led the hospital through two consecutive five-year strategic plans, oversaw development of The Heart and Vascular Care Center and the Centers for Orthopedic Care, and positioned the hospital to expand into outpatient diagnostic imaging and surgical services. Additionally, Newmyer helped the hospital to achieve significant growth in overall hospital volumes, extend the size and scope of the medical staff and strengthen the hospital’s reputation for clinical excellence in specialty services.

Moving forward, Fargo continues the hospital’s focus on building regionally recognized specialty services in cardiovascular, orthopedic and neurosciences. He will see the outpatient diagnostic imaging and surgery centers through completion, and continue to facilitate access to the hospital’s core services for the community.

“We’re blessed that we can count on exceptional doctors at White Memorial to help us continue growing our services and making this a better hospital to receive care,” said Fargo. “I also believe we have a strong team in place in business development to support that growth.”

For more than six years Fargo has made WMMC his professional home. In his most recent role as a service line director, Fargo led the hospital through an unprecedented growth in orthopedic services. He expanded the staff of orthopedic specialists from three to 16 surgeons and increased volume from 600 to 1,800 cases per year. Additionally, he established a full-service, accredited vascular lab and built a peripheral vascular intervention program. Lastly, Fargo has provided operational leadership of occupational medicine and rehabilitation services.

Before coming to WMMC, Fargo practiced physical therapy in the Inland Empire. He graduated with a Masters of Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University in 1995. Six years later, he completed his Masters of Business Administration at California State University in San Bernardino. In his free time, Fargo enjoys spending time with his wife, Julie, and his one-year-old son, Zachary, in their home in Redlands.
