Wmmc Using Sci-Fi Patient Tracking System
White Memorial is the only hospital in the area using a new high-tech patient tracking system that has cut patient waiting times for procedures like x-rays and CT scans and GI Lab significantly.
The tracking system, called Tagnos, consists of a patient bracelet that uses ultrasound technology to connect with computers in Patient Intake, Peri-Op Services, Admitting and Radiology. When a patient arrives for a procedure or pre-admission testing, the bracelet identifies where the patient is in his or her treatment process, and alerts staff. As soon as a patient registers, he or she shows up in the computer.
The radiology team, for example, knows when its next patient has arrived and is sitting in the waiting room, and the team automatically prepares for the treatment or procedure. Alternatively, if a patient is not visible in the system at the time of his appointment, but another patient is ready, the staff knows to move ahead with the patient that is ready while waiting for the one that is late to arrive. Staff also know if a patient has not received treatment in a timely fashion, so action can be taken.
“The patient is automatically followed through each step of their visit,” said Randy Saad, director of Peri-Operative Services.
Other hospitals have already visited White Memorial to study the technology for use in their own facilities. WMMC has also been featured on KABC-7 TV.
