Congratulations to the most recent WMMC employees who have earned their master of business administration (MBA) degrees from La Sierra University, as part of the WMMC-La Sierra MBA Cohort Program that began in 2003. Fourteen WMMC employees in total have graduated from the program.
Earning their degrees on June 14 were HR Specialist Yvette Cruz, Clinical Engineering Supervisor Robert Torres, and Radiology Director Gena Kriewaldt. The three have been in the program since either 2006 or 2007.
“I’ve been able to use some of my classwork already,” said Robert, who said he has also been given more job responsibilities as a direct result of being in the program. Robert believes the degree will help him fulfill future career goals.
Gena said the opportunity to earn an advanced degree by taking classes on campus was an incredible opportunity. “The MBA program teaches you to look at problems and opportunities with a big-picture focus,” she said. “It also provides frameworks that you can apply to any problem or opportunity you encounter.”
Yvette feels a huge sense of personal accomplishment in completing the program. “It had been 20 years since I was in college, so it was a test for myself – ‘can I do this?’ There was a lot of juggling – work, my husband, my kids, and school. It wasn’t easy, but you just have to plan it all.”
The program is part of the broad educational assistance program and educational opportunities offered to all White Memorial employees.
