Rebuilding Project
Construction Completed on New Medical Office Building
To better serve patients and physicians, White Memorial
Medical Center has built a new state-of-the-art Medical
Office Building at the front of our campus on the corner
of Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and Boyle Avenue.
The new building is called the White Memorial Medical Plaza II (White Memorial Medical Plaza I is what we are now calling the medical office building that has been across the street from the hospital at 1701 Cesar Chavez for many years). The new building will house physicians and help us bring additional doctors to the area.
This building also houses White Memorial’s Information
Center, which helps people sign up for Medi-Cal; get
information about Medi-Cal and other health plans available
to them; find a doctor who meets their needs; and get
other valuable information about our hospital and health-related
services in the community. The Information Center moved
from its current location at the corner of Cesar Chavez
Ave. and State St. on Friday, Aug. 20 and is now open
in the new building.
The bridge that runs across Cesar Chavez Ave. connecting our two medical office buildings also re-opened. The bridge, which has been closed since 2003 to allow for the construction of White Memorial Plaza II, is named in honor of the late Mayor Tom Bradley. Bradley was a friend and fervent supporter of White Memorial for many years.
In
2003, White Memorial demolished two smaller existing
medical office buildings located at 1700 and 1710 Cesar
Chavez and began construction on the new three-story,
90,000-sq-ft, state-of-the-art facility.
The new Medical Office Building is a significant component of the hospital's campus Master Plan, which includes the New White Memorial Rebuilding Project, as well as other construction projects. The primary objective of the Master Plan is to meet the requirements of the Senate Bill 1953 (SB 1953), which is a part of the Alfred E. Alquist Hospital Facilities Seismic Safety Act and the California Health and Safety Code.
