Call Frequency
The residency program is committed to the overall mental and physical well being of the Housestaff and has implemented a Float Call system for all residents. The Float Call is a two week block rotation which involves 5 consecutive nights of duty, Sunday through Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The resident on the Float Call has no other daytime responsibilities except one half-day session per week in the Family Health Center for continuity clinic.
PGY-I:
Average frequency is every 4th night excluding Emergency Medicine where there is no call.PGY-II:
Family Medicine Service frequency is every 7th night during the 4 block rotations. Surgery inpatient rotation is every 4th night. Float Call is two, 2-week rotations. Average of 12-15 calls for the Family Medicine Service during remaining rotations over a 24-week period.PGY-III:
Family Medicine Service frequency is every 7th night during the 2 block rotations. Float Call is two, 2-week rotations. Average of 9-12 calls for the Family Medicine Service during the remaining rotations, 40 weeks in total.
During the academic year 2002-2003, the residency program implemented a successful strategy to limit resident duty hours. This strategy is fully compliant with the new ACGME resident duty hours policy that became effective July 1, 2003.
