Current Residents
PGY-3 Residents
Linda
Hillier, DO, is a 2005 graduate of
the Western University of Health Sciences.
She received her BS Nursing in 1990 from California
State University Long Beach as well as her
MSN Nursing from UCLA in 1992. Dr. Hillier
has served as Team Mom for the Arcadia American
Little League Association and Advisor for the
Peer Mentor Education Program at Occidental
College. She is fluent in Spanish and enjoys
interior decorating, gardening, scrapbooking
and cardiovascular activities for stress reduction
and health maintenance.
Victor
Lin, DO, is a 2005 graduate of Western
University of Health Sciences. His bachelor
of science (Biology) and bachelor of arts (Psychology)
were both received from the University of CA,
Irvine in 1999. Dr. Lin has provided physical
examinations for a free clinic in Chinatown
as a member of the Asian American Health Professionals
Student Assoc. He also provided instruction
to fellow WUHS students in guitar as well as
tutored them in medical bio-chemistry. He similarly
served as discussion leader in Organic Chemistry
while a student at the University of CA, Irvine.
Dr. Lin is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and is
an avid guitarist.
Daniel
Marciano, MD, is a 2004 graduate of
Boston University School of Medicine. He received
his bachelor of science (Biology) from Yeshiva
University in 1997. He also completed a transitional
year of training at Tufts/Lemuel Shattuck Hospital
between 2004 and 2005. Dr. Marciano’s
outside activities have included the triaging
of patients as an Emergency Medicine Technician
at Panorama City Hospital. He also acted as
a Volunteer/Driver for Tomchei Shabbos, an
organization that delivered donated foods to
economically challenged Jewish families in
Los Angeles. He understands Spanish and speaks
French and Hebrew. His hobbies include basketball
and automotive interests.
Elliot
Wade, MD, is a 2005 graduate of Emory
University School of Medicine. He received his
bachelor of science (Biology) from Xavier University
of Louisiana in 2000. His past activities include
serving as both the Chapter President
& Secretary for his Student National
Medical Association (SNMA) as well as co-coordinating
the Open Door Community Clinic, a free
clinic for homeless and impoverished, where
he scheduled, staffed and ordered necessary
materials for the clinic. Additionally,
Dr. Wade helped 3rd grade kids in New Orleans
learn to read as a member of Start The
Adventures in Reading (STAIR). Dr. Wade
speaks basic Spanish and enjoys digital
photography, writing poetry, politics and
cars (specifically 1990-1993 Honda Accords).
Ousama
Ismael, MD, is a 1988 graduate from
Damascus University, School of Medicine, Syria.
Dr. Ismael completed an Internal Medicine Residency
(PGY I & II) at the VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre,
Penn. from 2003 to 2005. Before joining White
Memorial, Dr. Ismael worked in many charity
centers in Syria and volunteered as a peer
counselor at his health campus. He also provided
counseling support for first year medical students.
Dr. Ismeal speaks Arabic and enjoys listening
to music particularly jazz, country and Arabic.
He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling,
boating, playing chess and backgammon and watching
soccer.
PGY-2 Residents
Phong
Bui, MD, received his B.S. in Biology
and Chemistry from the University of California,
Irvine in 2001. He continued his education
at the University of California, Irvine College
of Medicine, receiving his medical degree in
2006. Dr. Bui has volunteered with the Madres
del Futuro Clinic, the Clinica Cariño
and has served as a language instructor for
the Little Saigon Christian Reformed Church.
His hobbies include soccer, attending sporting
events, snowboarding and researching tech gadgets.
Dr. Bui speaks fluent Vietnamese.
Duc
To, MD, received his B.S. in Molecular
Biology from the University of California,
San Diego in 1997, followed by an M.S. in Physiology
from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
in 2000. Dr. To continued his education at
the Albany Medical College, in Albany, New
York where he received his medical degree in
2006. He volunteered as a student tour guide
at the Albany Medical College, and as a STD
Educator at the University of California, San
Diego. He enjoys participating in and teaching
Tae Kwon Do, as well as experimenting with
computer hardware and software, especially
the PDA. Dr. To is fluent in Vietnamese and
speaks limited Spanish.
Naghmeh
Paktan, DO, received her B.S. in Molecular
and Cell Biology in 2001 from the University
of California, Berkeley. She received her Osteopathic
Degree from the New York College of Osteopathic
Medicine in 2006. Her volunteer experiences
include being a teaching assistant at her medical
school in 2004, a volunteer trainer at the
Children’s Hospital in Oakland, California
in 2002, a coordinator for the Berkeley Parkinson’s
Support Group and a mentor for Student Achievement
Guided by Experience (SAGE). Dr. Paktan’s
hobbies include dancing, walking, problem solving
and family. She is fluent in Persian (Farsi).
Amy
Leung, MD, received her B.S. in Biology
from the University of California, Los Angeles
in 1997, her M.S. in Biomedical Sciences in 2000
from Barry University and her M.S. in Applied
Physiology from the Rosalind Franklin University
of Medicine and Science, Chicago, Illinois in
2002. She received her medical degree from the
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and
Science at Chicago Medical School in 2006. Dr.
Leung was an active member of Playground Medicine
in 2002 and a member of CMS Health Care Project
in 2003. Some of her hobbies include skiing,
bicycling and outdoor activities.
Stephanie
Greger, MD, received her B.A. in Economics
from the University of California, Berkeley
in 1996 and her medical degree from UCLA/Drew
Medical Education Program in 2004. Dr. Greger
further prepared herself for residency training
by serving as a Research Fellow at Harbor UCLA
until 2006. Her volunteer experiences include
time with the Peruvian American Medical Society
in Ayacucho, Peru, UCLA Helping Hands in Mexicali,
Mexico, and Lennox Health Fair with the Latino
Medical Student Association. Her hobbies include
travel, woodworking, hiking, biking, kayaking
and scuba diving. Dr. Greger is fluent in Spanish.
PGY-1 Residents
Karen Michelle U. Guiang,
DO, is a graduate of Western University
of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic
Medicine of the Pacific. She received her BS
(Psychology) from the University of California,
San Diego in 2000. Prior to coming to White
Memorial, Dr. Guiang volunteered for community
organizations including the Montclair Clinic
where she provided low cost care to the underserved
population of Montclair, Calif.; the Clinical
Osteopathic Medicine Practicum; and the Pomona
Community Health Action Team where she administered
free monthly health assessments. As a member
of Sigma Sigma Phi she also participated in
various service programs. During her presidency
of the LACMA/AMA Club, she promoted health
policy education and activism on campus. At
Western University she was the School Ambassador
in which she provided insight and advice to
future medical school applicants. Dr. Guiang
speaks both Tagalog and Spanish, and enjoys
spending time with family and friends, traveling,
scrap booking, writing, running, health policy
education and activism.
Breanna Freeman, MD, is
a 2007 graduate of the University of California,
Los Angeles/Drew Medical Education Program. She
received her BS (Biological Psychology) in 1999
from University of California, Berkeley. She
has participated in several extracurricular activities
including the Student Sight Saver Program, where
she was the co-coordinator in screening high
risk populations for glaucoma. She was also the
coordinator for the Student National Medical
Association where she organized and volunteered
in a major health fair providing free healthcare
to residents of East Los Angeles and Watts/Willowbrook
communities. She tutored and motivated elementary
and junior high school students to seek out future
careers in medicine and science through the Youth
Science Enrichment program. She was a storyteller
at Bright Lights Bookstore and an SAT Tutor for
high school students. Besides this, she was an
instructor at the Lawrence Hall of Science and
provided medical education at the Watts Health
Foundation in the Teen Mother Mobile Health Unit.
Dr. Freeman enjoys storytelling, jewelry design,
photography, scrap booking and traveling.
Reza Jamehdor, MD, is
a 2007 graduate of University of California,
Irvine, School of Medicine. He completed his
BS (General Biology) from University of California,
San Diego in 2002. Before coming to White Memorial,
he served as the co-founder and president of
a pre-medicine outreach program where he supported
undergraduate students aspiring to enter medical
school. He was the founder and president of Fight
Against Cancer in conjunction with the American
Cancer Society to help raise money for cancer
research. Dr. Jamehdor speaks Farsi and Spanish,
and enjoys tennis, wrestling, traveling and experiencing
new cultures.
Joon Kim, MD, is
a 2007 graduate of Michigan State University,
College of Human Medicine. He received his BS
(General Biology) from University of California,
Irvine in 1996. Before joining White Memorial,
he counseled young adults at the Youth Olympics
by Asian Professional Exchange, which draws about
150 at-risk children in Southern California.
He served as a mentor through the Big Brothers
program, which was a life changing experience
for him. Dr. Kim speaks Korean, and enjoys black
and white photography, open water scuba diving,
running and baseball.
Lilian Lao, MD, is
a 2007 graduate of Saint Louis University, School
of Medicine (SLUSM). She received her BS (Biochemitsry)
in 1997 and her MS (Chemistry) in 2004, both
from San Francisco State University. Dr. Lao
was the co-founder and co-coordinator of the
John Cochran VA Hospital/Laptops for the Bedbound,
which was designed to offer entertainment to
patients through the use of computerized puzzles
and games. She participated in the SLUSM Health
Resource Center Silent Auction, and assisted
at the Laguna Honda Hospital. Dr. Lao speaks
Bisayan (Filipino), and enjoys reading, organizing,
piano and gardening.
Jesus Lozano Jr., MD,
is a 2007 graduate of University of California,
San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. He
received his BA in (General Anthropology) and
BS (General Biology) in 2001 from University
of California, San Diego. Before joining White
Memorial, Dr. Lozano was co-chair of the Latino
Medical Student Association from 2003 to 2004,
where he participated in community health fairs
and conferences to heighten the awareness of
medicine as a career for minority students. While
at UCSF, Dr. Lozano was part of the medical team
for both the Nike Women's San Francisco Marathon
and the San Francisco Marathon. He also volunteered
as a lab assistant in UCSF's Department of Anatomy
teaching first and second year medical students
the anatomy of the extremities. Dr. Lozano speaks
Spanish and enjoys playing sports and guitar.
Holly Neglio, MD, is
a 2007 graduate of Loma Linda University, School
of Medicine (LLUSM). In 2002 she received her
BS (Psychology) from California State University,
Northridge (CSUN). Before coming to White Memorial,
Dr. Neglio was the co-founder and president of
the Radiology Interest Group at LLUSM, which
promotes early exposure to radiology. She also
mentored junior and high school students, visited
patients through the WMMC Chaplaincy Department,
co-facilitated a Group Dynamics course at CSUN,
and coached at the American Youth Soccer Organization.
She enjoys exercising, sports, horseback riding,
hiking, fishing, boating and camping.
Courtney Scott, MD,
is a 2006 graduate of the University of Southern
California, Keck School of Medicine. He received
his BS (Psychology) from Loyola Marymount University
in 1999. His past outreach experience includes
the Inglewood Community Health Fair, where he
identified key health topics for the target population.
Dr. Scott helped coordinate booths for agencies
such as the American Heart Association, American
Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, and the
Texas Department of Health. He enjoys hiking,
golfing, running, cooking, roller blading and
sports.
Catherine Buell, MD,
is a 2007 graduate of University
of California, Los Angeles/Drew Medical Education
Program. Dr. Buell received her BA (English Literature)
from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
in 1992. She then received her teaching credential
(Bilingual Multisubject) in 1994 from California
State University, Dominguez Hills. Before joining
White Memorial, she participated on the Primary
Care College Subcommittee and founded the Educational
Outreach on Nutrition program for elementary
students. Also, she was a student representative
for LACMA, did fundraising for the Geriatric
Medicine Interest Group and provided Spanish
interpretation in the UCLA Emergency Department.
Dr. Buell speaks Spanish and Italian, and enjoys
film, theatre, languages, hiking, singing, sewing
and cooking.
