OB/GYN Residency Program
Faculty
Dr.
Leroy Reese serves as the director
of medical education at WMMC. He is also the chairman
of the OB/GYN department as well as the dean of Loma
Linda University School of Medicine, Los Angeles Campus.
He attended medical school at Loma Linda University
and did his residency at WMMC. He is married and has
two grown children. He received the 2000 CREOG National
Faculty Award. Special Interest: Urogynecology.
Dr. Kathryn J. Shaw is director of
maternal-fetal medicine at WMMC. She graduated from
University of Southern California and did a residency
in OB/GYN and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine
at LAC/USC Medical Center. She is the 1997 and 2006
recipient of the CREOG National Faculty Award. Dr.
Shaw enjoys spending time with her two sons in her
free time.
Dr.
Cinna Toy Wohlmuth is the program
director of the OB/GYN Residency program at WMMC. She
attended medical school at Loma Linda University and
did her residency at WMMC. Her area of special interest
is REI and Ultrasound. She is the 1998 recipient of
the CREOG National Faculty Award and is President of
the Los Angeles Ob/Gyn Society 2007 - 2008. She is
married and has two children. In her spare time,
she enjoys the creative arts.
Dr. John Schlaerth practices gynecologic
oncology at Women's Cancer Center, Pasadena. He attended
University of Southern California School of Medicine.
His OB/GYN residency and Fellowship in Gynecologic
Oncology were completed at Los Angeles County/USC Medical
Center.
Dr.
Ronald Johnson has practiced
with the WMMC OB/GYN Medical Group for over 10 years.
He is the recipient of the 1999 and 2003 CREOG National
Faculty Award as voted by the residents. He completed
his medical school and residency at Loma Linda University.
Dr. Johnson and his wife have one son. Special interest:
operative gynecology and laparoscopy.
Dr. Brian Acacio is the medical director
of Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Glendale,
California. Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology,
as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility,
Dr. Acacio serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor
at the University of Southern California (USC), and
Loma Linda University.
As a researcher, Dr. Acacio has over 30 publications and presentations at nationally recognized conferences and peer review journals. Currently, he continues his work in the laboratory and in the field of male factor infertility.
Dr. Acacio is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine and the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. His postgraduate training includes an internship, residency and fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at USC Medical Center.
Dr. Acacio is licensed to practice medicine in California, Nevada and Hawaii. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a Fellow of the Los Angeles Society for Reproductive Medicine, Pacific Coast Ob/Gyn Society, Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, and the Society for Gynecologic Investigations.
Dr. Kim Warner is actively involved
in student and resident medical education. After attending
medical school at University of California, Los Angeles,
she completed her residency training at WMMC. She is
married and has two children, Emily and Evan. Special
Interest: Urogynecology.
Dr. Stephen Montoya is director of
residency training at Sunrise Hospital. He graduated
from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
He received his OB/GYN residency training at University
of Arkansas. He is Chairman of Dept of Ob/Gyn at Sunrise
Hospital and Co-Chair at University Medical Center,
as well as the President of the Nevada Medical Board.
He received the 2000 APGO Excellence in Teaching Award.
His area of special interest is operative laparoscopy.
He and his wife have three children.
Dr. Chasity Jennings-Nunez is a graduate
of the WMMC OB/GYN residency program and is a graduate
of Harvard Medical School. She is interested in adolescent
gynecology and obstetrical ultrasound. She enjoys teaching
residents and medical students and received the 2004
CREOG National Faculty Award. Her husband, Felix, is
a Family Medicine physician. They have two children.
Dr. Jeffery Fisch is as graduate
of UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New
Brunswick, NJ, where he also did his OB/GYN residency.
He completed fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology
and Infertility at Stanford University. He is currently
the Associate Medical Director of the Sher Institute
for Reproductive Medicine in Las Vegas, NV. He is married
and has two children.
Dr.
Laurence Spencer-Smith attended
medical school at Loma Linda University and did his
residency training at WMMC. His area of special interest
is gynecologic-oncology and surgery. He received the
CREOG National Faculty Award in 2007, and is past present
of ACOG District 9, Section 5. Dr. Spencer-Smith and
his wife have two children, Ian and Devon. In his spare
time he enjoys bicycling, skiing and traveling.
Dr. Robert Futoran is on the gynecologic oncology faculty at University Medical Center and Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended University of Southern California School of Medicine, and completed his OB/GYN residency training at LAC/USC Medical Center. He received Gynecologic Oncology training at Albert Soiland Cancer Foundation, Los Angeles Tumor Institute. In 2002, Dr. Futoran received the CREOG National Faculty Award.
Dr. Geoffrey Sher is Director of
Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Las Vegas,
Nevada. He graduated from Stellanbosch University School
of Medicine and received his residency training at
Livingston Hospital. He served as Assistant Professor
of Ob/Gyn, University of North Carolina School of Medicine,
before joining the University of Nevada School of Medicine
as Clinical Professor. Dr. Sher and his wife have 4
children.
Dr. John Kelley graduated from Tulane University of Medicine, and received his residency training at Charity Hospital of Louisiana. He is Chief of the Department of OB/GYN at University Medical Center, Las Vegas, NV. He and his wife have 3 children.
Dr. Dotun A. Ogunyemi is Chief of
Inpatient Obstetrics and clerkship director for the
third year medical students clerkship and Associate
Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Director within
the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center. Dr. Ogunyemi is also an Associate Professor
with the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University
of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Dr. Ogunyemi is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in maternal-fetal medicine. His clinical practice emphasizes high-risk pregnancies and his research interests include medical complications of pregnancy and medical education.
Throughout his career he has received numerous awards for medical education and clinical research, including the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology Award for Educator of the Year 2001; Blue ribbon Award for birth weight for gestational age patterns at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' 52nd Annual Clinical Meeting, 2005; award for best presentation for noninvasive cutaneous cardiovascular dynamics patterns as predictors of preterm delivery in 2002 at the Annual Congress of the Japan Society of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Dr. Ogunyemi has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals, including the Ultrasound in Obstetrics Gynecology, Journal of Aquired Immune Deficit Syndrome, Teaching and Learning in Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Medical Association and Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Ogunyemi received his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at LA County King Drew medical Center and completed his maternal fetal medicine fellowship at David Geffen school of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Beth Y. Karlan is Director of
the Division of Gynecologic Oncology within the Department
of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the Gilda
Radner Ovarian Cancer Program. Dr. Karlan is also Professor
of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California,
Los Angeles, (UCLA) School of Medicine. She is a magna
cum laude graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe College. Dr.
Karlan received her medical degree from Harvard Medical
School and the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Program in Health Sciences and Technology. After finishing
her residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Karlan
completed a fellowship in molecular biology at Yale
University School of Medicine and a fellowship in gynecologic
oncology at UCLA School of Medicine.
Dr. Ilana Cass is a faculty physician
for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology within the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center. Dr. Cass also serves as an Assistant
Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University
of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) School of Medicine.
She received her bachelor's degree from Brown University
in Providence, RI, and her medical degree from Mount
Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Cass
completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology
at Yale/New Haven Hospital in Connecticut and a fellowship
in gynecologic oncology at Albert Einstein College
of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.
Dr. Ronald S. Leuchter's clinical
expertise is in cancers of the female reproductive
tract. In particular, he has a special interest in
ovarian cancer and treats many international patients.
Dr. Leuchter is a prominent medical researcher, acting
as the principal investigator on numerous studies related
to the optimal treatment of gynecologic cancers. He
is an attending physician at the Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center, with offices located in the Outpatient Cancer
Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.
In addition, Dr. Leuchter holds a faculty position
as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. Dr. Leuchter
has authored over 70 publications, many of which he
has presented at medical conventions.
Dr. Leuchter received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada in 1970. He completed an internship at Royal Columbia Hospital in Vancouver, Canada, a residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology with a subspecialty in gynecologic oncology. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Leuchter received the CREOG National Faculty Award in 2005.
Dr. Lynn D. Kowalski has been in
private practice in Las Vegas with The Women's Cancer
Center of Southern Nevada at Lake Mead Hospital Medical
Center since completing her fellowship training in
September 1998. Dr. Kowalski attended medical school
at Washington University School of Medicine in St.
Louis and her residency training in obstetrics and
gynecology took place at Magee Women's Hospital in
Pittsburgh. She then completed her fellowship
in gynecologic oncology at Washington University in
St. Louis. Her areas of research interest were
the molecular genetics of endometrial cancers as well
as of primary peritoneal cancers. She is board-certified
by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Dr. Kowalski originally grew up in Miami Beach and
enjoys the sunny Las Vegas weather. She likes to take
advantage of outdoor activities that the Southern Nevada
landscape has to offer including hiking, skiing and
boating.
Dr. Andrew John Li is a staff physician for the Division
of Gynecologic Oncology within the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Li is board certified
by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Li's
research interests involve minimally invasive surgery
in the treatment of gynecologic cancers, as well as
investigating the role of hormones in the development
of gynecologic cancers.
Dr. Li received his bachelor's degree from Rice University in Houston and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Li also completed the combined gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
