OB/GYN Residency Program
Overview
The postgraduate training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at White Memorial Medical Center is a fully accredited program affiliated with Loma Linda University School of Medicine (LLUSM). The ACGME granted WMMC OB/GYN Residency Program five years of full accreditation (maximum allowed) at the 2006 accreditation site visit. Three residents are currently being selected each year for the first-year position.
The four-year program is planned to provide progressively advanced graduate training and responsibility in gynecology and obstetrics. The resident physicians are directly and primarily involved in the care of all patients in this program. In addition to their inpatient care responsibilities, the resident participates in a large, active, supervised ambulatory-care program. Supervision is provided by the full-time faculty and attending staff members.
WMMC is affiliated with the undergraduate medical education program of the LLUSM. Medical Students from the University are assigned to the WMMC OB/GYN program for their clinical experience. It is expected that the residents will participate in the medical student teaching program of the University.
In the second postgraduate year, the resident rotates at Cedars Sinai Medical Center gynecology-oncology department, under the direction of five full-time gynecologic oncologists.
In the third
postgraduate year, the resident has a four-month
rotation at Sunrise
Hospital and Medical Center (SHMC) of Las Vegas
in gynecologic surgery. SHMC is a private hospital
with a large volume and variety of gynecologic
surgery that allows the resident significant operative
experience. Also in the third year, the resident
attends Sher Institute of Reproductive Medicine
and participates in advanced reproductive technologies.
In the fourth postgraduate year, the resident assumes rotations of each of the following responsibilities: Administrative Chief Resident, OB Senior and GYN Senior. The Administrative Chief Resident is responsible to the Director of the Residency Training Program and the chairman of the department for the organization and direction of the residency training program.
