OB/GYN Residency Program
Clinical Venues
Clinical experience for the resident is provided by over 3,500 deliveries, 4,600 surgical cases and 27,800 outpatient visits each year at White Memorial, Cedars Sinai, Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine. The majority of the patient base comes from the hospital's clinic and is the responsibility of the resident staff under direct supervision from attending faculty.
Labor and Delivery Unit
Labor and Delivery is located on the third floor
of the WMMC Specialty Care Tower and
provides service 24 hours/daily. The unit includes
a triage for screening of patients, ten labor,
delivery and recovery rooms, two delivery/operating
rooms, and recovery beds. Access to the unit is
by card reader and secured door operation. Visiting
hours are 24 hours/day. Patients may have family
and visitors in the room while in labor and during
delivery. The ancillary staff includes a unit
secretary, obstetrical technician, and RNs/LVNs
per shift. A warm, experienced nursing staff ensures
that patients receive the best care possible.
Maternity Unit
The Maternity unit is a 24 bed unit with 20 private
rooms, 4 semi-private rooms, 2 isolation rooms
and a newborn nursery. This unit is located on
the Fourth floor of the WMMC Specialty Care Tower, and operates on a 24-hour basis.
Access to the unit is by card reader door operation,
or calling the unit to give you access. A monitor
screen, which is located at the nurse's station
views all visitors. Infant security is ensured
by the accutech infant security sensor tag placed
on every newborn's ankle. Comprehensive
postpartum and neonatal nursing care focuses on
helping the mother, newborn, and family to achieve
optimum health potential. We encourage our mothers
to keep their newborns in the room with them.
Our visiting hours are 24 hours-a-day. High-risk
antepartum patients are admitted to the High Risk
Obstetical unit on the third floor. These are
patients requiring inpatient management, but not
requiring the specialized management specific
to labor and delivery.
Outpatient Clinic
The
Outpatient clinic boasts ample examining rooms
in an attractive setting. Patients are seen in
regular clinic rooms as well as special procedure
rooms featuring equipment necessary for colposcopy,
cystoscopy/urognecology, and laser and LEEP procedures.
Two ultrasound machines with transvaginal ultrasound
transducers are also available. Residents and
attending faculty members have a private consult
room for case discussion. Electronic patient
charting is utilized throughout the outpatient
office. Reference books and access to the internet
are also available in the consult room.
Library Resources
Courville-Abbott Memorial Library, our main medical library, houses up-to-date collections and the most current technologies. Residents and medical staff have library access on a 24-hour basis. Examples of available services include computerized literature search, interlibrary loans, and photocopying. UpToDate.com is accessible throughout the White Memorial Specialty Tower. The library also offers a special free service called "Current Awareness Service," which allows a resident to choose, on a monthly basis, articles from three library medical journals of his/her interest.
The Zerne-Nakamoto Library was created in 1994 by the founding OB/GYN faculty and dedicated to the OB/GYN residents. It is located in the Labor & Delivery Suite, and offers residents 24-hour access to up-to-date OB/GYN textbooks and journals, interactive educational CD-ROMs, and educational videos.
