Pediatric Residency Program

Overview

The Pediatric Residency Program of White Memorial has thirteen pediatric residents with four residents at each of the three levels of training, with one level hosting five residents on a rotational basis. In 2008, there will be four PGY I residents. The program is a member of he National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) through which incoming Pediatric candidates are selected via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Facilities

There is a 29-bed general pediatric ward with a 5-bed pediatric intensive care unit adjacent to this ward. Patients with general pediatric medical and surgical problems are admitted to both of these units. In addition, there is a 29-bed neonatal intensive care unit and a general nursery with a capacity of 24 beds.

Faculty

Faculty

We have eight full-time pediatric faculty including specialists in Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases and Neurology. In addition to neonatologists, there are Pediatric Intensivists as well as excellent support in other subspecialties such as surgery, ENT, Urology and Radiology.

Teaching Conferences

In addition to daily ward attending rounds there are three to four teaching conferences per week. These teaching conferences include case conferences selected from the difficult cases on the ward; subspecialty conferences including allergy and immunology, pediatric intensive care, neonatology, radiology, cardiology, adolescent medicine, endocrinology, infectious disease, board review sessions and grand rounds usually given by guest speakers discussing the wide-range of topics pertinent to children and their problems.

Special Sessions

To maintain the skills of the pediatric house staff and neonatal intensive care, the interns and residents are exposed to special intubation sessions early in the academic year and are all certified in neonatal intubation. In addition, the pediatric house staff go through the Pediatric Advanced Life Support program and the Neonatal Resuscitation program.
