About White Memorial

Governance and Management
Sound
governance provides the foundation for operating in
a socially responsible way. WMMC is owned and operated
by Adventist
Health, a faith-based organization affiliated
with the Seventh-day
Adventist Church that operates 19 hospitals in
three western states and Hawaii.
Like Adventist Health, WMMC is a not-for-profit organization, meaning that its governing board is made up of volunteers, and it re-invests any surplus into serving the community. The funds needed to operate the hospital come from patient fees, returns on our investments, and donor support.
Board members are appointed to two-year terms that are staggered so that only part of the board turns over each year. For many years, the governing board has evaluated itself annually. Beginning in 2004, the Governance Institute, an independent third party, helped the governing board conduct a self-assessment in six areas of performance, including planning, financial and quality management.
Also, the hospital’s Charitable Foundation is governed by a separate Foundation Board composed of a diverse group of stakeholders.
